I remember reading info on the hop a while back, but I hadn't heard of anyone using it or reporting results good, bad, or indifferent.

I picked up some Apollo from Niko Brew.  I don't know if I Like it alone, but it seems to work well in a mix with Summit and CTZ.  Perhaps a single hop pale ale is in my future?

I also picked up a couple of oz. of HBC 342 (or something) from Farmhouse Brewing Supply.  It's an experimental hop that I've heard some interesting things about.  It's supposed to have good aroma.

dogfisherman:
Hey Mashed, what's the word on those Calypso hops?  I have a pound in the freezer and plan to do a single hop batch with them in the next month or so, but how did your APA with them turn out?

Anybody ever used Super Galena?  The hopsdirect site describes them as citrusy, but I also see Chinook as a substitute, so that might imply sharp bitterness.  In either case I am brewing a session American Bitter tonight with the Super G for bittering, Perle at 30 mins and am torn about whether to also throw some Super G in at knockout or to go with something I am more familiar with like Columbus.  I want the beer to be hoppy and can always dry hop if I don't get the aroma I am looking for out of the knockout addition.

emacgee:
Planning some single hop brews coming up with some of the NZ stuff. I carry Motueka and Pacific Jade at 5th Season and I've wanted to see what those will do on their own.  Thinking about mashing a 6 gallon batch and then splitting it up and doing half batch boils of two different single hop ipas to get more bang for my buck.  Anyone tried this before?

MashedAvenger:
I've done that before. I've made ten-gallon batches & split between two BKs to use different hops. Kind of a pain in the ass (twice the chilling, twice the clean-up), but it works.

Vic, I just kegged the Calypso a couple weeks ago, so nothing to report just yet. I need one of my taps to blow before I can hook it up.
