Anybody still keeping an eye on this board?
« on: November 09, 2011, 07:21:59 AM »
I know it's not highly used but it's still one of my favorite places to go  ;) Lot's of trash accounts signing up and posting crap lately. Someone leave the backdoor open??

Looks like Jon (or somebody) is still taking out the trash on a regular basis.

I would imagine there's a lot of spam that hits the board that we don't even see.  I still check the board daily and I like it a lot.

I check beeradvocate as well, but the scene there seems to be pretty transient or at least the names I used to know on BA don't post as much as they used to and I haven't taken the time to reacquaint myself.

While I still drop by once a day, this site is becoming less and less relevant.  I really wish we had something like beermenus.com in NC.  This board used to provide an element of that kind of information but not so much any longer.  It would be nice if ncbrewing or ncbeer would pick up the slack on that front.

I think the social media has removed much of the discussion to their sites. We've had some spammers and are killing them as we find them!

What would really make sense IMO is a calendar of sorts where beer events could be seen. The worst thing is when we find out about something a day before with no chance to attend.

Beer events would be great as would "real time" tap and bottle lists from the beer-oriented bars/restaurants around the state.  Many cities have sites that provide this kind of information and, I imagine, it helps bring in business for a relatively modest effort once the protocals for keeping lists updated are established.

We've been trying to keep the spammers at bay.  But, I think this forum suffers from (1) an apathetic community (perhaps getting/sharing info elsewhere, such as meetup.com, facebook, etc), and (2) management with higher priorities (beermapping, etc.).  I recall this being a lively forum with occasional get-togethers and such.  But, things change...  :bandit:

Forums updated with hopefully a stronger spam solution. Now new registered users have to answer what city Highland Brewing or Duck-Rabbit Brewing are located (idea hat tip: GCBrewingCo).

Hopefully this will help a bit... I actually like the layout and look of this default theme, but if anyone wants me to move it back to the old version or something similar I can do that.

Jonathan (and Dan too!).. Thanks for keeping this place up. I'm as guilty as the rest about not posting as often as I once did..I've gotten too busy to brew as often as I did..And there are so many NC places opening up (breweries, bottle shops etc..) I'm ashamed to say I tend to lean on "social media" more then the boards anymore to keep up with things  :(
