All great until the genius walks along who, oops, mistakes the water container for a dump bucket.

I'll assume you're talking about using pitchers. That's why the closed system of dispensers or rectangular jugs with spigots is better, and why we use that now.
I brew, therefore, I have homebrew.

I'm not much of a rinser either. Maybe for the first few samples, of things I've really wanted to try, but after that palate fatigue makes rinsing of less and less value. Good to have the option, though.

Although most people look at me funny, I always rinse and drink the water afterward.  That way my glass is clean and it helps you stay hydrated.

I do the same, and it works great. Just carry around a water bottle and refill as needed.

And you waste less beer.

That's not why they do that :D

I felt like there were  plenty of water bottles.  I do try to rinse between samples and I never ran out of water.  A good festival IMHO.

There were rinsing stations scattered around, not very convenient I'll admit. More of them? Other solutions? I'm all ears on this one, though I'm not a rinser myself for the most part.

Maybe something like Duck Rabbit has done sometimes, has a keg of water with them? I dunno, I've never had a problen being able to rinse at a fest.

OG, they brought that themself, and I think it's great foresight by them, but it is the festival staff's obligation to supply rinse water in some fashion.
At the Great Taste, there is a centralized dripping cow tank ( appropriately ) so if you want to rinse you can, but you have to walk a bit. Our system is more convenient, but I've never seen the problem with the way they do it in Madison.
Also, there was plenty of bottled water available for drinking. Why not grab a couple of those, rinse with it, and drink the rinse water out of your glass. Ambulatory rinse water.
I brew, therefore, I have homebrew.

I'm submitting my complaints ( I'll have more myself than I've gathered on here BTW ) and comments from the beer community later this week. Keep 'em coming.

We used to put one of those 2.5 gallon rectangular containers at each table, with plenty of spares

Those are perfect. I also keep a 1.5 liter bottle on my belt loop and then refill it when I run across a booth with a water tap.

This isn't a complaint (so does that make it off-topic here?), but earlier in the thread someone broached the subject of whether NC breweries would like to be grouped together.  Duck-Rabbit is squarely in the *yes* camp, please!  I'm proud of our local colleagues and love the idea of showing visitors just how strong the NC beer community is.  Solidarity now!

Peace,

I will agree with the observation of too many people for the tickets to cost $40.
I very much enjoyed the special batch beers that were presented by some of the local area brewerys, not just their every day stuff. Shows they appreciate us, their customers. Some of the locals that only had their regular stuff can learn a lesson. You know who you are...

I totally agree with Frothster.  The specialty beers made the festival for me.  Thanks to all who put forth the special effort. :dancebeer:
