nc beer talk / Beer Clubs or Groups??
« on: August 02, 2006, 06:38:36 PM »
i dont think the homebrew class idea is somthing i would benefit from at this point ...  down the road i would love to learn about brewing but where im living in my apartment , space is limited..   my focus for a group would be a gathering of fellow beer lovers in this area..   say theres a meeting of 10 or 20 and everyone brings a variety of beers they either like or have recently tried and share them with the folks and discuss .. well beer.. and just hang out and conversate.. me personally im a year or so into my beer endevours and im just getting my tastes up to trying some of the more strong ales and stouts..    so is this somthing we can organize is the triangle area?  and where would be a place to consider?    a place like flying saucer or somwhere just general where we can bring our favorite brews to share?     lets get somthing going  :coolbeer:

i mean if u think about it.. that would be a great idea...   i mean home brewing is awsome but i have to work my way up to doing that.. i think a beer group dedicated to trying new beer styles and talking about them is a great way for some newer people to understand it all... i have lots of books and what not but conversing with another beer geek sounds like somthing worth while...    people could meet once a month and bring some new beers they have tried.. hey ya never know... anyone else with any info lemme know... thanks guys

I went to Whole Foods today .. kinda in a rush..    they had a bunch of new stuff i didnt see last time...   one of them was Old Stock Ale.. it has like an 11.4% abv.. I got Duvel and gave it a shot .. pretty good, easy to drink. it was like a meal in a bottle .. very filling.    i know we should keep the chat to a minimum on these posts but is the Old Stock a real dark beer or what i couldnt see.. and just wondering what is a really good seasonal Pumpkin ale...and favorite Flying Dog ?

Thanks GC..     Well do u have a recomendation for a beer with a 12% - 15% ABV thats light and not VERY hoppy.. id like to try one of the new "Big Beers" that has a lighter , easier to drink taste but still have a little kick ;)    thanks... any advice is appreciated

The truth is that there just are not that many beers above 10-12%.  I think as others mentioned you should look for some of the lighter Belgian beers to try (they would not have to originate from Belgium, just Belgian style).

I think BD and ABT hit the nail on the head...something light, golden and in a 7-10% ABV range is where you should focus...

GC what does the BD and ABT stand for..??    well im going to go to Whole Foods and see what they got there tomorrow afternoon.. im going to pick up some Duvel.... ill give that a shot ill post back and let u guys know if they have anything new and interesting

The Dogfish WWS is 18%+ ABV so maybe T/W is pulling our leg... either that or they made a mistake and we might get some of the real good stuff!!!
