Winston-Salem's Foothills Brewing adds a couple more Great American Beer Festival awards to their tally this year. Head Brewer Jamie Bartholomaus brought home Silver Medals in both the Bock category and the Baltic Porter category.
Foothills Baltic Porter and Gruffmeister 8 Maibock were the beers that secured the medals for Foothills.
Congratulations to Foothills Brewing, Jaime and everyone else who helps Foothills get beer into our glasses!

stevekruger writes "The first official gathering of the Triangle Beer Meetup will be on August 22 at Horniblow's Tavern in Raleigh. Horniblow's is the brewpub in conjunction with Big Boss Brewing Company. They will be putting on a private beer tasting as well as brewery tour for all meetup members. After the tour we will congregate back in the pub for drinking and socializing. The Triangle Beer Meetup was established to enhance the beer drinking experience for everyone in the area. We will be meeting monthly at various establishments to enjoy some of the best beer the area has to offer. Pour Cask Ales for Pop The Cap!

"I'm looking for a total of eight volunteers for Pop The Cap's Cask Ale Tent at the October 7th World Beer Festival.
If you serve from 12-4, you get to go to the evening session for free. Same if you serve from 6-10...you can do the afternoon session.
The Cask Ale Tent supports PTC's ongoing mission to elevate beer culture in North Carolina. More importantly, it's air conditioned.

Farmville, NC—The Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery celebrates its second anniversary with a Pint Night at Raleigh’s Flying Saucer Draught Emporium on Wednesday, August 9, 2006.
The event unveils the brewery’s Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter, third in a series of limited-release seasonal specialty beers. The Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter is deep, rich and velvety soft. A full blooded roasty character is balanced by complex alcohol notes. Strong (9% alcohol by volume) yet unfailingly subtle, this special brew warrants sipping and savoring. Accolades abound in the brewing community as brewmaster and founder Paul Philippon’s distinguished portfolio of beers has expanded to include a series of seasonal specialties—the Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter follows the Rabid Duck Russian Imperial Stout and Wee Heavy Scotch Style Ale.

Oskar Blues Rolling Into North Carolina

We know from "where the new beers are" that Dale's Pale Ale and Old Chub have been popping up around NC for the past couple of weeks.

Oskar Blues Enters North Carolina Market
Raising of state's alcohol level in beer clears way for "Canned Beer Apocalypse" and Dale's Pale Ale and Old Chub
(Lyons, Colorado) -- Oskar Blues Brewery the nation's first hand-canning craft brewery - has entered the North Carolina market.
The company's highly acclaimed canned beers -- Dale's Pale Ale and Old Chub Scottish-Style Ale -- are now appearing on North Carolina shelves. The beers are also appearing on draft in select North Carolina bars and restaurants.
The beers were previously not permitted in North Carolina due to the state's restriction on beers above 6% abv. But Dale's Pale Ale (6.5% abv) and Old Chub (8% abv) were made legal last summer, when the state's Pop the Cap consumer group successfully lobbied the state government to raise the allowable alcohol percentage to 15% abv.
"We're glad we can provide Carolina consumers with big, rich beers in handy little cans," says Oskar Blues Brewery founder Dale Katechis. "Beer lovers there understand great beer, and many of them enjoy time in the outdoors, where a great beer is especially satisfying. So we figure our luscious, highly portable craft beers will be a hit in North Carolina."

Saint Valentine's Day Beer Options

Valentine's Day, what a wonderful exhilarating time for us all! We get to spend our money on flowers that are already dying, cards that will eventually clutter our landfills and fancy chocolate (hopefully we can enjoy the chocolate). But it seems that craft beer gets overlooked a bit during this holiday smeared with romance.
Since there have been so many requests for examples of beers that could go well during Hallmark's biggest money making scheme Valentine's Day, I've compiled a lengthy list. And here it is;
Well, I don't know about you guys, but making that list made me a bit tired. I think I'm going to start getting ready for my Valentine's Day celebration. I need to dig through my cellar for a bottle of Dark Lord Imperial Stout (Three Floyd's Brewing) and head to the store to pick up a few hershey bars. I hope yours is as good as mine!

I'm pretty sure you can manage it. But then again, I'm your friend. Maybe I'm too close to your situation and maybe I can't think clearly. I hope I'm wrong.
